Unearthing a true historical site, celebrated by two nations, the South Africans and the Swazis, for the liberation and bringing into existence the largest democracy on the African continent - after more than 40 years in existence. It has been described as the nerve centre for the operations of the ANC and its armed wing Umkhonto weSizwe in Swaziland and has been paralleled to Liliesleaf Farm, in Rivonia. It has been argued that both these properties contributed to the liberation of South Africa. However, it has also been concluded that Number 43, at least from a military perspective, contributed more to the struggle. This conclusion is based on the period the house was utilised as a key strategic point for MK and that it lived to see liberation.
It was the principal base for launching the armed struggle against South Africa, particularly in the period beyond 1982, when King Sobhuza II died. Unlike Liliesleaf, it did not face up to the same ending.
The book, is the first to provide an indepth analysis of how the Kingdom of Swaziland and its people contributed, or otherwise, to the liberation of South Africa. During the launch of the book in Swaziland, King Mswati made this acknowledgement, "...book gives a balanced historical perspective on the role that was played by the Kingdom of eSwatini in the liberation of South Africa.. King Sobhuza II played a delicate and critical role in ensuring that the passage of members of the African National Congress was always safe.” At the same occasion, the President of the ANC, said, "He did it the Swazi way... King Sobhuza once told our then President, uTambo (Oliver) that uma nisebenta, kukhona laba hlafuna ngalomunye umhlatsi – baluma ngala ngakimi, baphindze balume nangale."
Given its critical contribution to the history of both South Africa and Swaziland, the house is being considered for conversion into a historical site.
